SUBJECT VISION
Biology is the study of living organisms, it’s the study of life on Earth, why it exists, how it exists and how it all works from the smallest molecule to the largest organisms known to exist. You’ll learn all about a whole range of different topics including how the body works, how different animals survive in extreme conditions, and how every living thing in the world works together to stay alive. At Kingsmead, Biology is only taught by specialists. Our team is made up of people with degrees in Biology and Forensic Science, Biochemistry, Ecology and Marine Biology so whatever you find interesting there will be Biology teacher who knows all about that topic and lessons which are planned by people who really know what they’re talking about.

How does this subject develop the whole child?

Cultural Capital Development
Includes multiple trips and online experiences which help to develop cultural capital such as trips to Chester Zoo and The Post-mortem Live

Cross Curricular Links and Projects
We have strong cross-curricular links with Geography and at A-Level with Chemistry as well. Recently we've been working on a cross-curricular project with computer science about the use of VR headsets in Biology lessons.

Opportunities to develop your Leadership Skills through this subject
In Biology you'll have a chance to develop leadership through working in teams to do practical work and solve problems.

Links to developing extended writing, reading and numeracy
There are many links to extended writing, reading and numeracy across Biology. These include preparing for the extended writing questions in your examinations, reading scientific articles to learn new information and the use of numeracy is present in almost every lesson.
