SUBJECT VISION
At Kingsmead our intent is that students gain a secure understanding of music through performing, composing, listening and evaluating across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, cultures and musical genres.

Our objective is to develop a lifelong understanding and appreciation of music, as well as an insight into the importance of music in the wider community. We support our students in using their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.

How does this subject develop the whole child?

Contribution to RSE/LIMB/Pledge

Literacy skills are developed through extended writing tasks linking music to its intended purpose. Rhythm activities help to develop students' numeracy skills

Cultural Capital Development
Students study different periods in musical history including the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. Students also learn about music from cultures around the world including Calypso, Samba and Blues.

Cross Curricular Links and Projects
There are many cross curricular links established including a Year 8 Horror Film project and an ecosystems theme for the Year 7 Calypso project, working alongside Geography and Art.
