Lead Learners

Lead Learners play an integral part in us ensuring that students are nurtured to be innovative and high quality learners, inside and outside of the classroom.

Trained and able

The group of students, across all years, are trained in Learning and Teaching by the Assistant Senior Leader in L&T and the Deputy Head.

They get to understand what forms effective lessons from evidence-informed research.  They identify the 'active ingredients' to effective learning from examples and consider what improves long-lasting learning.

Lead Learners attend their own professional development sessions to do this.

How do they influence the school wider?

  • Lead learners take part in a number of whole staff training events including some inset days.
  • They contribute ideas and insights from the student point of view having been trained on what effective methods and principles may look like.
  • Lead learners contribute to the fortnightly review of learning and share their thoughts into the SLT discussion on this.
  • Lead learners often contribute to wider school events for example being part of student panels in interviews, representatives at MAT events and Governor student forums

How do I become a Lead learner?

We are keen to have a representative group of the whole student body.  We actively recruit students who demonstrate skills that would support them in this important role.  That said, we are keen to include students who want to be involved and show the necessary commitment to do so.  If you are interested please contact our Assistant Senior Leader L&T Miss Porter: c.porter@kingsmeadschool.net.
