The Long Term plans
These map out what key content and skills are taught across each half term, in each subject, in each year. The golden threads for each subject are included as skills or concepts that run through from KS2 to KS5. Cross-curricular links further go to support the retention and retrieval of golden threads and are mapped on our long term plans.
Schemes of Learning
These are a blueprint for learning in the classroom. They take:
and map out a route for students to follow. They allow for greater consistency within the classrooms and the sharing of best practice throughout the departments.
They are flexible enough to respond to each student's individual needs.
Adjustments following the National Lockdown March 2020 and ongoing pandemic response
We have expanded the use of Personal Learning Checklists (PLCs) and, alongside the blended learning platform, have a way for students to pick their route within lessons based around 'what they know' and 'what they don't know.'
The PLCs are reviewed at points during each unit and from this we can identify any gaps in knowledge or skills. These are fed into schemes of learning and home learning.
Each 6 weeks students and staff take a look at how well this is going and set targets and changes for the next 6 weeks.
We identified from the March 2020 lockdown that students would benefit with even greater recall and retrieval practice as well as extended writing practice. These core skills were disrupted during the lockdown and so schemes have adapted to reflect the need to focus on these.
We have a programme of measures to identify any potential gaps in knowledge and skills quickly in all years. This will feed into our schemes of learning so that students succeed.
