The Arts are at the centre of Kingsmead’s ethos and values in developing the whole person and unlocking every student’s natural talents. We believe in giving every student ample opportunity to perform and to develop their creative gifts, in turn developing communication, presence, confidence and self-expression.
In Year 7, students will study Drama, Music, Art and Technology throughout year. These lessons will operate on an 8 week rotation; 2 weeks intensive of Drama, 2 weeks of Music, 2 weeks of Art and 2 weeks of Technology. Students will have 7 hours of each subject every two weeks, studying a specific Topic. Overall, there will be four rotations so Year 7 students will study four Topics in each subject over the course of the school year.
Near the end of the school year, ‘The Arts Project’ timetable collapses and all of Year 7 will join forces to create an end of year ‘Year 7 Showcase’! This is where students will combine their skills learnt over the academic year and will rehearse and prepare drama and musical performances, showcase Artwork, bake refreshments and create scenery for the Performances etc. It will be an evening of celebrating the Arts, giving every Year 7 student the opportunity to perform to an audience!
Whether your child has had minimal experience in the Arts or has a natural talent: on the stage, with an instrument or with a paintbrush, Kingsmead is committed to nurturing and developing these skills in all of our students, providing opportunities to excel and shine!
As their Kingsmead journey continues, students are able to study all of the Arts (Drama, Music, Art and Technology) at both GCSE and A Level, as well as being able to get involved in our acclaimed Extra Curricular activities: the annual School Production, KS3 Drama Club, Vocal Group, Orchestra, Art Club and many more!
