Biology (AQA A-Level)

Welcome to the A-Level Biology page!

Welcome to Key Stage 5 Biology.

Our A-level Biology program is designed to ignite curiosity, foster critical thinking, and cultivate a deep understanding of the living world. Guided by the AQA specification, our curriculum is structured to provide students with a comprehensive and engaging exploration of biological concepts, preparing them for success in both academic pursuits and future scientific endeavors.

Biology is everywhere... It is the study of living organisms, life on Earth, why it exists, how it exists from the smallest molecule to the largest organisms known to exist. Biology is everything from anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, ecology, evolution all the way to genetics. You’ll do dissections, breed fruit flies, do DNA fingerprinting and genetically engineer E.coli to glow in the dark!.

We believe in fostering a love for biology that extends beyond the classroom. Our students are encouraged to explore real-world applications of biological concepts, participate in research opportunities, and engage with the broader scientific community. We aim to nurture a lifelong appreciation for the natural world and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. It can lead you down many different paths. We’ve prepared students to study Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biomedical sciences, pure Biology and Law in recent years. Kingsmead Alumni have studied at university in Canada, St. Andrews, Oxford, Cambridge, Liverpool and even more locally at Keele

The AQA specification is assessed through three separate exams: Paper 1, which is worth 35%, assesses units 1-4; Paper 2, also worth 35%, assesses topics 5-8; and Paper 3, with a weightage of 30%, assesses topics 1-8.

With an A Level in Biology the world is your oyster.
