Children’s Play, Learning and Development (BTEC)

Children are the future, and you could be a part of that.

Our incredibly successful Children’s Play, Learning and Development course gives you the opportunity to start on your journey in becoming a childcare professional.

You will study how children think and develop from birth through to adolescence. This 2-year course will build on the exploration of these key principles of development milestones from birth to adolescence. Child development is an exciting journey to experience, covering a broad range of skills areas including:

* Physical (motor) skills

* Speech and language

* Social and emotional

* Cognitive and intellectual abilities.

The course covers a wide range of developmental areas as well as having an in-depth look into how professionals within Early Years settings use the Early Years Foundation Stage to encourage development within the young.

A key part of the course is that not only will you learn the theory behind the development of young people, but you will get to apply this during a series of work placements as you carry out a minimum of 50 hours throughout the course. You can, of course, do more!

You will study ‘children’s development’, the ‘development of children’s communication, literacy and numeracy skills’, their ‘play and learning’ and the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’

As a BTEC qualification you will produce a range of coursework assignments as well as complete external examinations. You will have the option to re-sit some examinations if you wish to.

This is a fast paced, exciting and fun subject to study. Our current students are living proof of that! Due to the nature of the subject, we participate in many practical tasks and link this to the development of children. Lessons are challenging and students quickly realise that they will be encouraged to reach their full potential. Staff are highly qualified, friendly and supportive within all lessons and empower students to get fully involved within all sessions. Students have individualised tasks within lessons which actively encourage ownership and confidence. We work very closely with external early years settings to ensure that placements are safe, stimulating and will provide our students with the best experience of that field.

Our students often leave Sixth Form with university places or job offers and it is so rewarding knowing the impact that they will have on the young children that they will work with.
