WHY STUDY BIOLOGY
Biology is the study of life and the fascinating processes that allow living organisms to survive, grow and reproduce. In A Level Biology, you’ll explore the subject in considerable depth, building your understanding from the molecular level through to whole organisms and ecosystems.
The course gives you the opportunity to develop your practical skills alongside your biological knowledge. You’ll investigate biological processes through a range of required practical activities, including microscopy, enzyme investigations, dissection, aseptic techniques, respiration and photosynthesis investigations, and ecological sampling.
You’ll also have the opportunity to take your Biology outside the classroom on a field trip to Barmouth, where you will carry out ecological sampling and investigate the distribution and abundance of organisms in different habitats. This will allow you to apply your knowledge of ecosystems, biodiversity, populations and sampling techniques to real-world environments. A-level Biology provides an excellent foundation for further study in a wide range of biological and healthcare-related subjects, including Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Pharmacology and Biology.
