why study chemistry

Chemistry helps us understand the substances and processes that shape the world around us - from medicines and materials to energy and environmental challenges. AQA A Level Chemistry combines theory, mathematical problem-solving and practical investigation, allowing you to explore topics including atomic structure, bonding, energetics, rates, equilibrium, organic chemistry and analytical techniques.

Being led by a team of skilled and experienced Chemistry teachers, you will develop valuable skills in problem-solving, data analysis, practical investigation and scientific reasoning, while learning to apply your knowledge to unfamiliar and real-world situations. Practical work includes investigating rates of reaction, analysing substances and preparing compounds such as aspirin.

Chemistry is an excellent foundation for university courses and careers including Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Forensic Science and Natural Sciences, as well as many other scientific and professional pathways. If you are curious about how and why things happen, enjoy solving challenging problems and want to understand the world at a molecular level, A-Level Chemistry is the subject for you.
