why study health and social care
Health and Social Care is an engaging and rewarding subject that provides students with an insight into the development, wellbeing and care of individuals throughout their lives.
Throughout the course, students explore human lifespan development from birth through to later adulthood and death, considering the physical, intellectual, emotional and social factors that can influence an individual’s development. Students will also develop their understanding of human biology and the principles that underpin effective Health and Social Care practice.
The course develops a range of valuable transferable skills, including communication, research, problem-solving, organisation, empathy and the ability to work effectively with others. Students will also develop an understanding of the importance of professional practice, safeguarding, equality and supporting individuals with a range of needs.
Health and Social Care is an excellent stepping stone towards further study and careers . It can provide a strong foundation for university courses and career pathways including Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Mental Health, Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy and other caring professions.
