WHY STUDY SOCIOLOGY

Sociology is one of the most relevant courses available to study. You will consider a range of complex societal issues, such as racial and gender inequality, the role of capitalism in society, and how forces like identity and power uniquely shape our experiences in individuals.

You will study topics including education, the family, the role of religion and belief, and crime and deviance. You will think critically as you evaluate a range of sociological perspectives such as functionalism, feminism, Marxism and postmodernism in explaining the social institutions that shape Britain today.

Studying Sociology develops a valuable range of transferable skills, including critical thinking, research, analysis, evaluation and communication. You will learn how to investigate complex societal issues, interpret evidence, and construct well-reasoned arguments.

A-Level Sociology can open doors to a diverse range of university courses and careers. Potential careers include Social Research, Social Work, Policy Analysis, Journalism, Counselling and Marketing, as well as roles within education, public services, government and the voluntary sector.
