WHY STUDY SPORT

The sports industry is one of the UK’s fastest-growing sectors, and this course provides the scientific knowledge and professional skills needed to pursue a career within it. Combining the depth of an academic subject with the practical focus of a vocational qualification, you will explore how the body responds to exercise, develop your understanding of health and fitness, and apply your knowledge to real-world sporting situations. You will study the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems and develop practical skills in client screening, health monitoring and fitness programme design.

You do not need to be an elite athlete, but you should have a genuine interest in sport, health and fitness, enjoy applying knowledge to real situations and be prepared to meet deadlines efficiently.

Sport can support progression to a wide range of degrees, including Sport & Exercise Science, Coaching, Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, PE Teaching and Sports Management. It can provide routes into apprenticeships and employment within fitness, coaching and more. The course combines particularly well with subjects such as Biology, Psychology, Business and Health and Social Care.
